John Neiland and Jeremy Mitchell presenting the Michael Prather Volunteer Award to Art Bailey

At His Way Recovery Center in Atlanta, we believe that the most meaningful impact is often made through quiet, faithful service—through individuals who give of themselves not for recognition, but out of love, compassion, and a heart for others.

During our 2026 Give-A-Way Fundraising Dinner, we had the honor of presenting the Michael Prather Volunteer Award to a man who embodies those very qualities—Art Bailey.

Presented by Jeremy Mitchell and John Neiland, this moment was more than just an award—it was a reflection of legacy. The Michael Prather Volunteer Award was created to honor the life and service of a beloved board member whose impact continues to shape His Way. This year’s award was fittingly given to someone carrying forward that same spirit.

Some people serve when it’s convenient. Others step in when there’s a need. And then there are those rare individuals who do both—faithfully, humbly, and wholeheartedly.

Art Bailey is one of those individuals.

A Personal Journey in Recovery

What makes Art’s impact even more powerful is his personal journey.

Having been sober for decades, Art understands the realities of recovery in a deeply personal way. He knows that the journey doesn’t end after leaving a structured program—it evolves. And because of that, he pours into the men with wisdom and authenticity, encouraging them to stay grounded in their faith, attend meetings, build new habits, live out the steps, and surround themselves with a strong, sober community.

He doesn’t just speak about recovery, he lives it.

While Art gives so much of himself in service, he also embraces life fully. Recently, he took an extended trip to visit family and friends—traveling through Connecticut, skiing in Vermont, sightseeing in Maine and Acadia National Park, reconnecting in Boston and New York City, and spending time with his sons and grandchildren in New Jersey. A joyful reminder of the life that recovery makes possible.

In many ways, Art represents the heart of both this award and this ministry.

The Michael Prather Volunteer Award is not just about service, it’s about legacy. It’s about living a life that continues to impact others long after the moment has passed, and Art Bailey is doing exactly that.

His life is a testament to what it means to walk in faith, serve with humility, and give back what has been so freely given.

Art, thank you for your faithfulness, your leadership, and your heart for others. You truly represent what it means to live His Way.
